What you will need to cite a book

New for 9th Edition: No publication location. To cite a print book, you will need the following:

  1. Author (s), or editor (s)
  2. Title of the book italicized
  3. Publisher
  4. Date of publication

Author's Last Name, First Name. Title of the Book italicized. Publisher, Year.

Book with more than two authors

First Author's Last Name, First Name followed by "et al. Title (italicized). Publisher, Publication Year.

Book by an unknown author (Anonymous)

Book Title (italicized). Publisher, Publication Year.

Boot Title (italicized). Edited or Translated by First Name Last Name, Publisher, Date of publication. 

MLA citation of a book with no author

Book with one author

Last name, first name. Book title. Publisher, Publication Year. 

Book with two authors

First Author's Last Name, First Name, and Second Author's First and Last Names. Book Title (italicized). Publisher, Publication Year. 

Book with two editors

Last name, First Name Initial (if available), and First Name Last Name, editors. Title (italicized). Publisher, Publication Year.
