Student Guide to the Library: Getting Help

A guide to library services for students

HOW DO I GET HELP?

Please come to the Reference Desk when you have questions or need help. During the fall and spring semesters, librarians staff the desk during all the hours the library is open; summer hours vary. The librarians are anxious to assist you in finding materials appropriate for your research. They are teachers who are devoted to helping you become an independent learner. If you wish to contact a librarian, please stop by the Reference Desk, call (805) 378-1472, or email at mcreference@vcccd.edu. Another way to access the email reference service is by clicking on the "Ask a Librarian" button on the library homepage. Email us your reference question, being as clear and specific as possible concerning your research needs. What is the class? What is the assignment? What kinds of sources are required? Be sure to indicate any deadlines you have. Although reference librarians don't do your research for you, they can suggest where and how to find reliable information.

How can I attend a library instruction session on my own if my class does not schedule one?
You are welcome to join a library instruction session. Please stop at the Reference Desk and ask the librarian to check the calendar to see what session best fits your schedule.
